When You No Longer Believe Knowing When To To Let Go and Move On

So much of personal growth is constructed around themes such as perseverance, determination, and self-belief.  As important as these themes are there is also another important side, the side of letting go and moving on. Perhaps it is a career path, a relationship, a dream, or a goal you hold in esteem. It is a fine line between giving up and moving on. That line becomes even harder to see when we are emotionally tied to the situation. Learning to recognize when it is time to let go could be one of the most important and valuable lessons you learn.

It all started when a close friend called me for some council. She was in conflict. Part of her wanted to continue to follow her dream and another part thought it was time to move on. I understood her conflict. I too have been here.  I started Get Life Coaching nine years ago from a dream and passion of helping others. Through out my journey, there have been gut check moments. Moments when I was in conflict, deciding my path. Should I move on or keep believing. After much internal debate, I asked myself a question "Do I still believe in me that I can". At first my head was flooded with "what ifs" and "I don't knows". Then I asked the same question to my heart and slowly I felt the answer, and the resolve.

Nothing last forever and closed doors do lead to open doors. The key is learning when it is an excuse and when your heart sharing the truth with you. It is hard and painful to let go of something you love or want. Yet sometimes you must let go so that you have the ability to hold something better. Note the key words, ability to. The scary part is in the moments after you let go and before something new comes your way. It may seem like an eternity, but it is not. It is only the period of in between. In between what was and what is.

Forget regrets and search your heart. Trust and believe until you no longer can. The cutting of the ties may be the hardest thing you do, but living untrue to you is a price that you will pay for the rest of your life.

I shared with her my insights and asked her if she still believed in her heart. You could see the uncertainty and fear come across her face. I asked her if she was in her head or heart. She smiled and said, "Ok I get it". She closed her eyes, put her hands on heart, and breathed in and out. Slowly, her face smoothed and a calmness showed. I could see her lips move slightly as she asked herself if she still believed. She breathed in and out again and asked the question again. She repeated it slowly over and over again till I could see a shift in her. She got her answer. Her eyes opened and she said "I know my answer". Her voice was steady as she said......
